Celebrating 50 years of Wildfowling
The Alde & Ore Wildfowlers is an amalgamation of two local Suffolk clubs. The Leiston & District Wildfowlers, formed in 1956, and the Aldeburgh Wildfowlers who were founded in 1981. Once it was realised that both clubs were applying for similar leases and rights around the river Alde and surrounding marshes, it became obvious that by uniting, benefits would be obtained for both clubs. Thus the Leiston Aldeburgh and District Wildfowlers Association was formed. This association was successful in obtaining Crown Foreshore and marsh for its members to shoot. As the area moved towards the south, it was agreed to include the River Ore in the title. Thus the Alde & Ore Wildfowlers was born.
Today the association has over 100 members, and owns large areas of prime marsh, as well as leasing rights and foreshore for our members. Our marsh interests stretch from East Suffolk to East Norfolk, including a large acreage of farmland. As a result our members enjoy varied shooting from huge areas of tidal river and forshore, to inland marsh and farm.
We have always understood the need for conservation and so provide large areas of sancturary for many species of birds and waterfowl by creating no shooting zones. We are justly proud of our record and mindful of our responsibility to the environment, flora and fauna. We are affiliated to groups that represent the very best in managing these areas, so that generations to come will be able to enjoy what we hold dear today.
